My boyfriend was listed as sole bene in his mom's will, stating if anyone contest the will they will be automatically out of the will, however both brothers were adopted. Is the brother entitled to half?

No, unless possibly if his mother wrote this will before she adopted the brother. It sounds like there should be no problem.
