Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

My uncle passed years ago without a legal heir. The state of Texas is holding a substantial amount of money in his name. As far as I know his neices and nephews are his only living heirs. What do we have to do to collect this money?

As an heir at law you can hire an attorney to open an heirship proceeding to determine heirship. With the court order you can make your claim. If the state has the money, you should contact the Texas Comptroller's office as soon as possible.

It depends on the estate, how much is there, and how long ago he died. If the heirs all agree, then this can usually be handled inexpensively.
