Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas
no will
Dad purchased some stock for me. I sent him a check and paid him. We were going to transfer them into my name. My Dad died before that was done. We find their was no will. He wrote in his hand writing on the Edward Jones statement the amount that were mine and my name. The stocks are going down and Edward Jones said I would have to go to court and be appointed overseer inorder to get the stock. I thought that cost over $1000.00 and if so what else can be done as the stocks are only worth about $300.

Re: no will
Is there any other property in your dad's estate? Was he married when he died? Do you have any brothers or sisters? These questions are probably far more important about what you should do than the value of the stock.
Remember, the stock value may go back up very rapidly, too, so the cost of probating your dad's estate may be a small investment overall.
