Last Will and Testament

I would like to know specific resource information available to assist me in preparing my own will. I am single and have no children so it will be simple and straight forward but I am confused about how my beneficiaries on life insurance, 401K, retirement, etc.. work in conjunction with any monetary bequests contained in my will.

Unless your life insurance policies, 401K, IRA etc are payable to your estate, they are paid in accordance with the beneficiary designation and your will has nothing to do with them. Wills control only probate assets and the items you mention unless payable to your estate are non probate assets.
