Legal Question in Workers Comp in Texas
Texas Workers' Compensation Law
I am a small business owner, with one employee and myself. I have been trying to get more business through property management companies, but they are all saying that I have to carry workers' comp. insurance to be a on-site vendor. I have talked to my insurance provider and was told that I am not required to carry workers' comp. as per Texas State Law, because i don't have enough employees, at this point i don't know how to solve the issue. I need some advice!

Re: Texas Workers' Compensation Law
You don't have to carry workers' compensation insurance in Texas, but these companies that you want to do business with can require vendors to have workers' comp coverage. This is to protect themselves. Also, if you are wanting to do work for the State, they require that you carry workers' compensation insurance in most instances. If you want to do work with these companies, you will have to purchase coverage.
