The distribution of an intestate estate is govern by statute, the Administration of Estate Act

Ch 9:01 Sections 24 to 26 of the revised laws of Trinidad and Tobago.

If there is a surviving spouse and no children the spouse gets the entire estate

If there is a surviving spouse and one child, both spouse and child gets one half each
