In British Columbia the Family Relation Act requires a parent to pay support for a child who is pursuing education full-time, even when the child is an adult. In B.C. you will attain adult status on your 19th birthday. So long as you are in full-time attendance at an educational institution, he can be required by Court Order to support you, but you must make your best efforts to obrtain student loans, scholarships and bursaries so the whole of the burden does not fall on your father. You miust also provide, from time to time, proof of full time attendance and must provide copies of your income tax returns and all attachments to your father. Your father has the right, if you sue him for support, to ask the court to Order your mother to contribute as well. Until you are 19, any legal action you take must be through the use of an adult over the age of 19. mot people would have their other parent take such action. Re: Child Support

In civil law, a person has a legal duty of look after his/her children and other relatives. For this duty, it is not important if the child is over 18 or not. Therefore, if your father does not pay for your university, you can claim for a maintenance. The court will sentence him to a maintenance according to your and his social life and status, your necessities and charges and his economic condition.
