Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Turkey
I have a sister who is an American citizen, 13 year olds, being treated in Turkey for a brain tumor because the operation was urgent and she could not be flown to the U.S. In the hospital they initially said she would be in ICU for two days but she had the surgery March 9th and we are still in the hospital and it's April 5th. The hospital is supposedly and American hospital now charging over 100 thousand euros but we are not happy. The nurses don't speak english and the doctors speak a little. She was in ICU for over 20 days, but after going in there and seeing her smelling and finding her full of urine we finally went to patients rights and told them we think our child's life is in danger. Then the next day they moved her to a room out of ICu where they required a special nurse 24 hours to watch her. We think this was a way for them to have us be present with the intensive care. The nurses they brought in would sit on their phone all day and not look at her and the hospital had a partner company that brought them in so I had to tell them everything every single day even though they spoke no English. I took pictures of them sitting nothin phone away from the patient and went to patients rights and begged for a change. I showed them the picture and they said they would fix it. The very next day they send in a nurse that refused to change the patient and refused to help me clean her tray for food. The sat down and fell asleep on the chair. As 30 minutes or more went by I called the chief of doctors and head of hospital to come in and watch the special nurse they sent in sleeping while she was supposed to take care of a kid with a tumor and fever who had seizures. They watched her sleep and sent her home and I recorded them watching her. I should mention that the nurses used a thermometer for oral temperature after using it under the arm. This happened 5 times and I reported it to patients rights. I even wrote a note in turkish over my sisters bed that said "please do not use the thermometer for oral" and labeled the thermometers. Today a nurse used that thermometer that specifically said "no oral" in the mouth. I should mention that my little sister has now 3 brain surgeries and any infection could be very big for her. I don't know what else to do, we are stranded in a hospital that mistreats the patient, myself, and my parents while we are trying to deal with the fact that our 13 year old has a tumor. Please give me advice bc I am emotionally and physically strained. Do I contact the embassy or what do I do?!!
