Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Ukraine

Selling a condo

My mother-in-law who owned a condo in Ukraine has passed away. She left no official will, but she had two daughters - my wife and my wife's sister who still lives in Ukraine. My wife and her sister are now trying to sell their mother's condo. My wife lives in California, and she needs to give her sister in Ukraine the power of attorney to sell the condo by herself as if my wife has nothing to do with that condo. Exactly what kind of legal documents do we need to get here in California in order to accomplish that goal?

Thanks much in advance.

Re: Selling a condo

California has a uniform statutory power of attorney that is available free on the internet or on the links to the left ("find forms"). Whether authorities in Ukraine will recognize it is unknown. You might call or e-mail the consulate in your city and ask them if a California power of attorney would do the job you want it to do in Ukraine. Good luck, and sorry to hear about your wife's loss.
