Legal Question in Family Law in United Arab Emirates
I am South African and my husband is British and we got married 2 years ago in South Africa and have been together for 8 years in total and we live in Dubai. He has now left and decided he wants a divorce. He earns a huge salary with very large housing allowance, free schooling, car allowance, phone allowance, etc. In comparison, my salary is very small with no allowances (as the husnband should provide). I have a 14 year old son from a previous relationship who has viewed my husband as his father for 8 years. Since leaving, my husband has told me to leave our home and stopped paying school fees. I have run the house for the past 6 years entirely on my salary (therefore have no savings as this is what he wanted) while he has never contributed towards anything except to his large pension funds and personal investments, etc.
My question is, am I entitled to any pay out or monthly payments?
He told me I will get nothing as he will say he is broke.
Many thanks and kind regards,
Mandi

Dear Mrs.Mandi,
From the contents of your Mail, it is seen that there is no mention about the religion to which you and your Husband belong to. Also there is no mention about the status of your earlier relationship.
Irrespective of the above, if you were legally wedded to your present Husband and have Documentary evidence to support the same, then you would surely be entitled to Maintenance from your Husband. He would be bound by Law to provide with the same.
However to advise you as to the legal recourse you can initiate, it would be necessary for you to provide more information, like whether the name of your Husband is mentioned in your Passport, whether your name is mentioned in his Passport, whether he is your Sponsor, whether he is still employed over here or has assets available over here, whether he has any Payments due to be received from his Employer, etc.
Only after providing all the necessary information, would it be possible to advise you as regards the immediate Legal remedial measures that you can initiate. For further clarifications, you may Mail to [email protected] or call on 0502104389.
Best Regards,
