Legal Question in Business Law in United Kingdom

About 25 years ago, my husband was co-founder of an extremely successful business in the UK which still bears his name. His partner was 12 years his senior and a very shrewd, experienced businessman. My husband was not. After the death of his girlfriend, my husband was so distraught he decided to leave the company and settle in another city to make a new life. He left without a penny and surrendered his shares. The shares were given to another person in the company who is now the Chairman. My husband and the Chairman are still on friendly terms and there was never any question of misconduct on my husband's part. Might he be entitled to any compensation for helping to build the foundation of this successful company or for the fact that his name continues to be used as part of the company's name?
