Re: employment

Under the Fixed-term Employees (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2002, SI 2002/2034, with effect from 1st October 2002 a fixed term contract is normally automatically converted by law into a contract of indefinite duration once the employee has completed four years continuous employment under it (or renewals of it) (FTER 2002 reg 8).

Service before 10th July 2002 does not count towards this period of four years continuous employment so that in calculating a period of four years continuous employment all fixed-term employees service begins at zero on 10th July 2002 (FTER 2002 reg 8(4)).
