Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom
child maintenance allocation
i am a 19 yr old student, still living
with my mother, who recieves money
from my father-her ex husband. the
money that she recieves for my
keeping is 500 and i do not see any
of this money. she spends it on herself
and does not use it to look after me.
my enquiry is- am i entitled to have
the entire 500 paid directley into my
bank account while still living at home
or do i have to move out of the family
home to recieve the money?
thank you

Re: child maintenance allocation
I am presuming that the money paid by your father is made under a court order which in all probability will be that he pays the amount to your mother for your benefit. This would have been appropriate when you were still a minor but now that you are of age there should be no difficulty in varying the order so that the money should be paid directly to you.
You will appreciate however that your mother will be entitled to payment from you for your maintenance now that you are adult. She would be well within her rights to ask you to move out of the family home if you are unable to come to an agreement with her as to the cost of your maintenance.
