child maintenance allocation

i am a 19 yr old student, still living

with my mother, who recieves money

from my father-her ex husband. the

money that she recieves for my

keeping is �500 and i do not see any

of this money. she spends it on herself

and does not use it to look after me.

my enquiry is- am i entitled to have

the entire �500 paid directley into my

bank account while still living at home

or do i have to move out of the family

home to recieve the money?

I am presuming that the money paid by your father is made under a court order which in all probability will be that he pays the amount to your mother for your benefit. This would have been appropriate when you were still a minor but now that you are of age there should be no difficulty in varying the order so that the money should be paid directly to you.

You will appreciate however that your mother will be entitled to payment from you for your maintenance now that you are adult. She would be well within her rights to ask you to move out of the family home if you are unable to come to an agreement with her as to the cost of your maintenance.
