Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom

Divorce costs

My ex-wife petitioned for divorce. I agreed and the decree nisi and then decree absolute were issued. We also have a clean break order granted. Now she is claiming 517 for costs. Although I feel I should only pay half of the court costs - 170 I sent her 10 post dated cheques for the full amount, the first payable at the end of this week just so things would be easy. I cannot pay the full amount in one go. She has returned them and is threatening me with county court judgements and bailiffs. She say she will accept 2 equal payments. There is no court order for this though she did send me a copy of the front sheet of the decree nisi with her demands underneath to make it look as if the court had agreed.

Am I liable to pay and am I being reasonable in paying in installments? The maximum I can pay is 100 per month but it would make my life very difficult. How do you think a court would decide if she took it further and would I be liable for costs if she did? What is my best course of action?

Re: Divorce costs

You will only be obliged to pay these costs if ordered to do so by the court and then in accordance with the order made. Let me know if I can help further.
