In the absence of fraud it is not possible for a person to be divorced without their knowledge and having the divorce papers served upon them. It is possible to carry out a search but it would probably be simpler for you to simply ask your ex to see the decree of divorce that would have been issued by the court.

I have no doubt that with young children you would be able to obtain orders to allow you to remain living in your house in divorce proceedings. The position is such that you should seriously consider filing for divorce and making a claim for the house.
