Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom

Entitlement

My partner & myself have split up. The house was mine & we were never married. 10 months on & 4 months after the sale of my house she think's she should be entitled to compensation. As far as I'm concerned have already paid her for any items she had paid for such as curtains, the cooker that her mum & dad bought etc. Would she have any legal claim for anything else? Many thanks.

Re: Entitlement

Unlike the situation where parties are married, the position with cohabitees is that on breakdown of the relationship the parties have no claim on assets owned by the other. Thus your former partner will have no claim whatsoever against the property you own. There is no maintenance obligation and no entitlement to any compensation for matters arising as a consequence of the cohabitation.

I hope that this will be sufficient but if problems develop, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to provide specific advice on your circumstances.
