Re: Grandparents Rights

There is no law as such in the UK that grandparents should have access to their grandchildren. However all other things being equal this would be expected by the courts as being in the children's best interest, and if such contact is denied by those with parental responsibility for the children, appropriate court orders will be made.

If you are being denied contact with your grandchildren it is open to you to make an application under section 8 of the Children Act 1989 for a contact order. The court in considering this will be guided by the presumption that it is in the children's best interest to have contact with their grandparents and it is highly likely that an order will be made.
