Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom

Parental rights

I have sole parental rights to my daughter who is 20 months old. I would like to know how to ensure that my parents would gain guardianship of my daughter in the event of my death and also how to ensure that the father has no chance of gaining custody. (aa judge has already ruled that he is allowed no contact with my daughter). Is it true I can protect myself by constructing a letter stating my wishes? And if yes, who if anyone needs to witness it? If you could give me any additional info on this matter i would be extremly grateful. thank you

Re: Parental rights

You should execute a Deed of Appointment of Guardian which will take effect in the event of your death and be a valid expression of your wishes. We have a suitable Deed available for download from our website with full instructions on completion and execution.

Unfortunately there is no way in which you can exclude the father from seeking care should you no longer be able to look after your daughter yourself but this would appear to be highly unlikely in the circumstances as it would not be in your daughter's best interest.

The Deed of Appointment of Guardian can be downloaded from www.legal-zone.co.uk
