in fact there are more than one modes of serving the notice to the defendant ,if one service fails the court orders for the other one by which service to the defendant become effective ,if after all the modes being exausted and the defendant does not appear than case be adjudicated ex parte.in your case , your husband can simply send you the divorce as per muslim family laws and doest have to go for a case in UK.any way you can also sue him in Pakistan.
