Legal Question in Family Law in United Kingdom

wife has $ in UK if we split is it a marital asset

I am a US citizen we were married in the US. My wife is still a UK citizen. She has inherited some money which is over there. If we divorce is that considerd a marital asset that would be divided equaly? Or does the US law not apply over there? Should I go there to get a divorce? Any advice? I have become disabled with MS she does not want to take care of me any longer! I supported her for 15 years and now that I am disabled I will really need the money!

Re: wife has $ in UK if we split is it a marital asset

where you file your petition for divorce will depend largely on where you are now living and where you last lived with your wife as husband and wife. If that is in the UK, the petitioner should be filed here. The money inherited by your wife is in all probability a matrimonial asset against which you will have a claim, and it is irrelevant that the money is invested in the US.
