I lost my african passport and i have nothing to show about my status.is it possible to write to home office and they write a letter detailing my stay coz i want to start working

In relation to your passport itself, you should check with your country's embassy as they may be able to issue you with a replacement.
In relation to your other question, it depends on what sort of visa you are on. You can either request a status letter from the Home Office, confirming your status here, or you can request a new stamp for your passport.
