Legal Question in Intellectual Property in United Kingdom

Game Video Capture

I had a look at the areas of law but

this was the closest to copyright I

could find. I am making a website on

video games and I was wondering if

there is any problems with capturing

video from games using a video

capture card on a computer and then

uploading the to our website for

viewing.

Could there be any legal problems

doing this?

Thanks

Re: Game Video Capture

In essence any copying and exhibition of any material outside the terms of the seller's licence provided with the game will infringe the copyright of the seller. They will be entitled to stop the exhibition of the material and may be able to get your site shut down.

If you are geniuinely revewing the game on your site and the clips you are showing are an incidental part of that review and your credit the copyright holder you may be able to bring yourself within the fair dealing exception. This is however a highly technical area about which you have to take proper advice.
