i am seperated from my wife, who lives in ireland with my ten year old son. my wife needs a serious operation, and i need to go over for a short while, to look after my son, while she is in hospital. but i am currently on job seekers allowance,am i ok to do this .

Generally speaking, you would have to cancel your claim for jobseekers allowance while you are in Irelend (I assume you mean the Republic of Ireland, not Northern Ireland). You cannot be a jobseeker if you are in another country.

If you did not inform the JobCentre that you are leaving the country, then they may be able to take action against you for benefit fraud.

As you are a European Union citizen, it may be worth checking whether you will be eligible for any state-benefits in Ireland, if you cannot support yourself otherwise.

A different choice would be to ask your wife if you could bring your son here to the UK for the time being, while she is in hospital. You would then be able to keep your jobseekers allowance, provided you are still actively seeking work.
