Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in United Kingdom

we are a bowls club established in 1932. We have been using the same ground free of charge since then. We pay our own utility bills and do all our own maintenance; the buildings on the site belong to the members of the club. The local parish council are now wanting to start charging rent for the site. Could you please let us know our position.
