Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in United Kingdom
My mum has @sold her back garden and builders have built a house there. The agreement was to then pay her for the land once the house was sold. They are now saying that they cannot sell and want to rent the property. The land however is still in my mums name, so can they legally rent it out, and if there are any problems, ie with water pipes etc who would be liable?

As matters stand there would seem to be nothing to stop these builders from granting a legal tenancy over the property held by your mother. However the situation is clearly unsatisfactory and full legal advice should be obtained. Let us know if you need further advice.
