Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in United Kingdom
Access to insurance documents etc and disclosure
I am asking this question on behalf of the two nieces of my partner. Their father (my partner's brother) died 3 years ago. The Deceaseds Will apparently did not make any provision for his two daughters (aged 22 and 25). His second wife, being their step-mother, therefore received the full benefit of the proceeds of insurance policies, pensions etc. She has paid each of the step-daughters a sum of money. However, amongst other possible policies etc, it has come to light that the Deceased had an insurance policy in place provided by his employer. The employer has advised the Deceased's daughters that under the terms of the policy, they have been granted 25% each of the proceeds, with the other 50% going to the Deceased's wife. The employer has advised that it cannot disclose the total value of the policy. The Deceased's wife has not mentioned such policy to the two daughters and, naturally, they would like to either see a copy of the policy itself or ascertain the value of the same. Is there any way that they can get access to such information in relation to this particular insurance policy and any others that may be in existence, should the Deceased's wife deny knowledge or refuse to disclose such information freely?

Re: Access to insurance documents etc and disclosure
Yes,beneficiaries of the estate have a right to this information. However this does sound like a tangled Web and I would be reluctant to advise on the steps which should be taken without a telephone conference and the sight of the will and grant of probate.
We would be pleased to advise further by telephone without charge if you can please provide a contact number.
