An executor can get reimbursement for all out of pocket expenses incurred in managing the estate, this might include copies, office supplies, long distance phone calls, postage, and reasonable travel expenses.. Also an executor in most cases can hire professionals to assist, such as accountants, real estate agents, attorneys, or other professionals as may be needed. Many estates allow for an executor to be paid for services. In Utah those fees are generally what a professional would charge to manage the estate (i.e. Zion's Bank Trust Department etc).

Some trusts do not allow the trustee (executor) to take a fee.

If there is a trust document it will usually describe the powers of a trustee/executor.
