Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in United Kingdom
money left to deceased person
My mother, who passed away in 2001, received a letter from a lawyer in England advising of money left to her by my father's cousin. I contacted the lawyer and she advised the money cannot go to her estate. If this is true can I contest the will or request information as to where the money will go?

While I agree with Ron that this might be a scam, it could be legitimate also. Frequently a Will may provide that if a recipient has predeceased the Testator (maker of the Will), some alternative disposition is provided for. Likewise, a Will may provide that if the intended recipient has predeceased the Testator, the bequest will go to the deceased's heirs. You need to see the Will and what it says about this. This is a reply to an Internet question and the response is not intended to be legal advice or to create an attorney-client relationship.

BE CAREFUL!!!!
This maybe a variant of the "Nigerian Scam." I have some samples listed on my website www.taxesq.com
IMMEDIATELY contact your estate lawyer! Do NOT pay any money or give any bank account information to the alleged attorney in England!
I hope this helps!
