Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in United Kingdom
Partner dies but leaves no will. now his kids want everything.
My mothers partner of 13 years passed away of natural causes 2 weeks ago. They lived together for 13 years, but were not married. He was retired and my mother is approaching retirement. He had been previously divorced so he had no house or property of his own. My mother owned the house and he stayed there as a lodger throughout their time together. They had separate cars, although everytime he upgraded his car, my mother would take his old one off him. They did own a flat in Cyprus together, which they bought equal shares in 4 years ago. The problem is that now his children are trying to bully my mother into giving them everything of his, saying she cant have any of it. All his personal money, car and the flat they owned in Cyprus. My question is what rights does my mother have in a case like this?

It will be necessary for your mother to make a claim for reasonable financial provision from her late partners estate under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act.
Further information is available from our web site we will be pleased to deal with any questions which might arise.
