paying a mandatory fee of 1300 pounds stirling for a letter of administration
is this fee valid when i am a benificary of an estate, i have nothing in writing stating this, only a certificate of deposit and the barrister's id

I am a amazed that the fee charged to the estate of which you are a beneficiary for the simple task of obtaining letters of administration was as much as �1300. You will appreciate however that without seeing the Bill, and details of the work carried out, I am unable to comment definitively.
A recent ruling by the courts has determined that there is a duty of care on solicitors acting in the administration of an estate to beneficiaries, and that these beneficiaries have the right to question charges made. You should refer the bill to the complaints partner at the firm involved, and if not satisfied with the response, ask that the firm apply to the law society for a remuneration certificate.
