Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in United Kingdom

where do i stand?

my father passed away. in his will, it was stated that myself my sister were to be left his share of his house. a letter of his partners solicitor states that my father had no financial interest in the house, therfore myself and my sister arent entitled to anything from the house. the house was bought 17 years ago for 90,000 pounds. my father invested 35,000 pounds of his own money into renovting the house. all the work that was done was done by himself. to get a builder in to the work that was carried out on the house would have cost in the region of around 50,00 pounds. the house costs in the region of 800 pounds per month to run. this cost was split equally between my father and his partner.

in your opinion, would you say that me and my sister have a valid reason to claim for the share of the house that was left in my fathers will?

the solicitor that was dealing with the will, told me ''off record'' that he thinks that we are entitled to a share.

i would be grateful if you could advise me where i stand on this matter.

This would most certainly seem a matter worthy of further investigation. The starting point should be a search against the property at HM Land Registry following which it would be necessary to take full instructions concerning your fathers relationship with his partner.

We would be pleased to assist further if so instructed.
