Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in United Kingdom
Just wondering if you can help, my Grandmother died back in August of last year, leaving no Will.
My grandfather died years before and the estate is being divided between her two sons (My father and his brother)
My father has promised that my brother, my sister and i shall receive around 5,000 pounds each from the estate after the sale of the house goes through.
There was an amount of money which has already been split between my father and his brother that was in a couple of bank accounts of my Grandmothers amounting to around 50k-60k.
What i would like to know is if my brother and i are able to contest this amount promised to us.
We both feel that, as we were caring for my Grandmother in the last six months to a year of her life and as my father had left the country and was living in Wales and his brother didnt want to know either, that we feel the estate should be divided more evenly between the grand children too as i believe my Grans wishes would have been.
I look forward to your response.
Regards,
David Gunn.

As your grandmother and grandfather did not make a will, the two only heirs are your father and his brother.
For the part of your father he has exclusive right to do with his inheritance as he wishes. There is no way to contest that.
Your grandmothers wishes about het estate could only have been made clear if she made a will. By not doing so, she expressively decided to let both of her sons haven an equal share, and nobody else.
