Legal Question in Family Law in United States Minor Outlying Islands
can I sue the state of Missouri ?
my son who is 8yrs old was placed into foster care about 2 years ago (with out my knowledge) I have been paying my child support starting in 2001 the state said that they looked for me and couldn't find me but they were getting the support money from me every month they said that they looked for me everywhere but couldn't find me well on 5/14 or 15 of 2008 the king county sheriff's dept. knocked on my door the same door that I have been living in for the past 3 years and handed me the termination of my parental rights papers and told me that I needed to contact Missouri and found out what this is all about. well I called and was told that I would be contacted well they never looked for they never tried to locate me because if they had my son would not have had to go into foster care I have lost a lot of time from my son because they didn't do their jobs if they would have looked they would have found me in the same place that the king county sheriff's dept. did to hand me those papers to terminate my rights to my son who I love very very much. so should I talk to a lawyer about this?

Without taking a position on what Missouri law is; you really need an attorney. If in fact Division of Child Support (and the Missouri equivalent) you have a strong argument for vacating a judgment. In WA parental relationships are considered such a fundamental right that you would have an attorney appointed if you could not afford one (similar to a criminal case). I have also worked with some attorneys who do serious family law work in the KC area in MO. Send me a note directly if you want a referral.
