Legal Question in Real Estate Law in United States Minor Outlying Islands
selling joint land
My grandfather died, without a will and left some land in Petersburg, Va to his siblings. Out of 11 children only 7 are living. My mother is the oldest sibling. If the land is sold, are all of the sibling entitled to the benefits of the sale of the property? At this time, only two of the sibling including my mother have been paying taxes on the property. Thank You

Re: selling joint land
To sell the land, all of the 7 children, and the children/heirs of the 4 who are no longer living, will need to sign the deed, absent a court order, and they will all be entitled to share in the proceeds. Those who have paid the taxes and other expenses may be entitled to reimbursement of those expenses off the top.
