Legal Question in Disability Law in Utah
Employment terminated for a disability
I was born with one hand not developed. I recently got a job doing sheet metal work on aircraft through a contractor on a military base. I had successfully done this type of work at a previous employer. After a few days of working a manager told me that a few of the civilian workers had complained about me working there because of my hand and that the managment were having a meeting to decide If i could keep my job. The manager asked if i thought i could do the work and i assured him that I could do the work and showed him the work i had done in the time allowed for the assignment i was working on. Later that day i was told that they would give me a chance. A few days later, I was told that my employment was being terminated because the customer, which is the government, is concerned that i wont be able to complete the tasks that the job requires because of my hand. Is this legal for them to fire me for that and is there any legal recourse for me to take?

Re: Employment terminated for a disability
You are entitled to protection under the Americans With Disabilities Act, which not only prevents this kind of treatment, it actually requires the employer to make special accommodations for you to do your job if needed. You may call for a free consultation.
