Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in Utah

attorney fees

A Utah state court ruled unjustly that I should pay an attorney fees (for his abusive pleadings) but I am indigent.

I have nothing and the court know that. But the court favors the defendants, a newspaper. I don't even have a job, how can I pay thousands of attorney fees? I did nothing wrong either. I sued his client and they turned it all around and go after me. Can they barge in my apartment and take my used TV and my matress away?

I provided already an affidavit that I am indigent, but they don't care. They harass a pauper. What are my remedies.

The attorney will now provide an affidavit of how many thousands of Dollars I should pay. I will of course object, but can they jail me when I don't have the money which I don't?

Thanks

Re: attorney fees

A judgment gives the "winner" the right to pursue collection. Generally the judgment is lodged with the county recorder where you live, to attach to any real property. They can garnish wages, and take certain property - however, there are a number of exemptions which protect most of your personal property and some of your income. You will have to be observent and protect your property rights. You can also file bankruptct against the judgment.
