Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Utah

Authorized Users

I recently filed Chapter 7 and one of the debts listed was American Express. My son and also a friend of mine were authorized users on this account. Can American Express try to collect from either or both of them now that I have filed for bankruptcy? They actually did try to collect from my son about a year ago when the account first went into arrears but he sent them a letter telling them to stop all collection activity and never heard from them again. But Im wondering if they can sue him or my friend for repayment of this debt now that I have filed my case. Also, will my bankruptcy be added to their credit reports? Again, they were not co-signers, just authorized users. Thank you for your help.

Re: Authorized Users

If they never agreed to be responsible for the account, then they cannot be sued, nor can collection be made against them. Their credit is not affected by your bankruptcy.
