Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Utah

Buying a home after bankruptcy

I filed for & was granted a chapter 7 bankruptcy on September 13,1999. When will I be able to buy a home? How do I go about that - how much would I need to put down? I have been renting a home for the past 7 years & the owners want to sell. thank you for any help.

Re: Buying a home after bankruptcy

It is true that when someone files for bankruptcy their credit is tarnished. However, I have had clients that were granted their bankruptcy and approximately two weeks later they were receiving pre-approved applications for credit cards. I would have to say that it is a case by case basis in that if a credit company wants to approve a card for you knowing that you have been declared bankrupt then that is their choice. Same with the purchase of your home. You may find a mortgage company that decides to extend credit to you. This may be difficult, but not impossible. As far as the amount that you need to put down all depends on the amount of the purchase and negotiations.
