Legal Question in Business Law in Utah
Ancestral Family Organizations
Family members as decendents of my paternal grandparents want to create a family organization for the purpose of family history research. We may receive money from family members as donations for use to publish a newsletter, do mailings, host a website, etc.
Question is: What type of organization would we need to permit the organization to have a name, a small bank account and the ability to have officers who serve on a volunteer basis for a pre-determined term?
Sorry. I do not know what area of law in involved.

Re: Ancestral Family Organizations
You can create an association, which is an information organization; or go more formal with a limited liability company. I recommend just reserving a name with the Dept of Corporations, and using an association, with its own bank account. (For that purpose you should have a federal tax ID number from the IRS.
