Legal Question in Business Law in Utah

If a business competitor is spreading false rumours about our organization, do we have legal recourse? Some of our customers beleive the rumours and it has cost us in sales. The rumour is basically that we no longer provide a service that we actually still do.

If you can prove that the competitor is the one spreading the rumors, you can sue for defamation. If the rumors interference with an existing business relationship, you might also be able to sue for interference with a business relationship. There are remedies, but the key is what you will be able to prove. Call me if you have questions.

You can get a restraining order requiring them to immediately cease spreading the rumors; at the same time you should file a defamation and a tortious interference with business claim, which seek the damages which you have lost because of their rumor mongering. You may be entitled to attorney fees and punitive damages as well.

You may call for a free consultation.
