what is considered a legal binding contract?
My husband works as a mechanic for a guy, this guy bought a new welder for my husband to use there verbal agreement was my husband was going to work for the guy to pay for the welder now this guy is discouraging other business for my husband by telling another client that he only pays a certain amount an hour which is much less so now my husband no longer wants to work for this guy but the welder is not payed off if my husband quits working for this guy can the guy legally take the welder from him there was never any written agreements made, my husband owes 3,000 dollars on the welder.

If there are any witnesses to the oral contract it could be enforced. If not you will have to work out something with the employer.
