Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Utah

Car egged

While driving an egg struck my car. I stoppoed and caught the young man that threw the egg and I called an officer to make a report. The officer arrived after a couple hours and knew the boy's father. The officer didn't write a ticket or make any formal note that the young man's father would pay for the damages, just that he was a good guy and was good for the money. Now I have a bid for the damages and he is not paying, saying that there can't be that kind of damage to th car ( around $700). He demands that I see his personal auto specialist. Is there any action I can take to not only get my car fixed but have it done in a timely manner? I'd rather not go to his mechanic; I feel that i've already been given the shaft by the officer. Thanks

Re: Car egged

You are not required to take your car to be repaired at any certain facility. However, it is not unreasonable to let the boy's father's mechanic to look at it. Let him look at the car, then take it where ever you want to be repaired (as long as it is reasonable). If the father does not pay, sue in small claims court.
