Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Utah

Exempt Property?

My situation is I am a full-time student and was laid off from my work back Dec 04. I had a loan with Money 4 You (advance payday/check loan business)that I was unable to pay.Money 4 You took me to court in May 05. I was barely getting by and there was nothing I could do and so a judgement was filed against me for the amount of $1210.00.I even considered filing bankruptcy but can't afford it. Money 4 You is now taking me back to court. I have been requested to appear in court Sept 13 to answer questions concerning my property. I don't own anything of any real value. The most valuable item I have is my computer that I use for school. What kind of property can they take? Can they take my car if I own it out right? (It's worth $1100)What can I expect to happen if I have no job and no real property? How can I prepare myself for this?

Re: Exempt Property?

They want to know of all of your income, assets and liabilities in order to get repaid. There is a list of "exempt" property which they cannot take, including equity in your car, wages less than minimum full time income, personal clothes, furniture. You can claim your computer exempt because it is needed for school.
