It depends on the information on which they relied to make the entry. The police would have needed to convince a judge that the reason for the "no knock" warrant - such as that evidence might be destroyed, or weapons obtained - justifies the intrusion.

There is no specific time limit to file charges, except for the statute of limitations after which a crime cannot be prosecuted. The statute of limitations varies for different crimes, but is generally several yaers.
