Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Utah

unlawful police entry

I recently had the police and animal control come take my dogs. They told me they received complaints of them getting out while I was not home. One time the dogs were not even there, but the complaint to them was still valid. I showed up at my home and the police were inside. I asked what they were doing in my home and they said searching for identification. The cop then informed me that he watched my two dogs jump over the fence. There are two major problems with that statement. One is that one of my dogs cannot even jump over the fence. Two is that later after my dogs were gone I went to my bedroom to find dog treats all over my bed. If they were out when they got there then why were there treats inside my home? I feel my rights were violated by them being in my home when I was not there. The cop was yelling at me and telling me I would go to jail for disorderly conduct for crying. I need to know if this was legal and if not what options do I have?

Re: unlawful police entry

The police had no right to go into your home. Your rights have been violated - that action is breaking and entering. You cannot be arrested for disorderly conduct for crying - especially at your own home. You are dealing with some bullies, and should file a formal complaint with the police chief or sheriff. You may have other rights.
