Question about threats over the internet

A friend of mine in Utah is in a dispute with her daughter in law's real mother. They are arguing over the internet. Can threats made over the internet by either of these individuals by email or instant messages be used against them in court? Can those emails be submitted as evidence of a threat by either individual. Thanks.
