Legal Question in Construction Law in Utah
Contractor cuts water line, floods house
I hired a large local contractor to reshingle a roof, and remove old swamp cooler. They removed the cooler, however, cut the water line, and left water running. The property was vacant for a week, and the entire house is flooded, including water damaged walls, carpet, electrical, etc... I called my homeowners insurer, but the contractor is at fault... Should I sue? or let the insurer battle?

Re: Contractor cuts water line, floods house
If your insurance company will cover the cost of repairs and handle the contractor, then let them do it - you will save a lot of hassle and get your house fixed. If your insurer refuses the claim, you will have to sue the contractor. If you have to sue, the first thing to do is get 2 written bids for the costs to fix everything.
