liens with no contract
Can someone put a lien on your home if there was no contract for the work done? Ie.. boyfriend helped with rennovations.

If you agreed to pay the friend, he can file a mechanic's lien against the property. He must, however, file suit to enforce the lien within a year, or the lien becomes invalid. If there was no agreement to pay him, he cannot file the lien, and may be liable for triple damages if you sue to remove the lien.
