Legal Question in Consumer Law in Utah

Cell Phone Roaming Charges

I had a cell phone account. When used outside the home calling area long distance and roaming charges would incur. I would suspend the service when traveling out of the home calling area and turned back on when back in the home calling area. I asked if there was a way to set up the account so the phone couldn't incur long distance and roaming charges. I was told if I added an additional monthly charge to the account it would prevent these charges. So I added it to the account in April. In August I was hit with a 1300.00 phone bill. I tried to dispute the charges but they turned the account over to a collection agency. I paid the collection agency to protect my credit. I'm still trying to dispute the charges but I can't get any response from the company. I sent certified letters, faxed in my dispute letter. No one will contact me and answer my questions. Can you offer any suggestions?

Re: Cell Phone Roaming Charges

You should consider filing suit against the phone company in small claims court. Someone will have to respond from the telephone company in court, or you will automatically win. Prepare your case with as many documents, dates, and witness you can.
