Legal Question in Consumer Law in Utah

company refuses to honor warranty

I bought a washer & dryer for my son nine years ago.

It has since been paid off. Now the company refuses to honor the warranty because of a bankruptcy I filed two years ago. Can they get away with this? What can I do about it? Thanks a lot!

Re: company refuses to honor warranty

As long as you paid for the washer and drier the company cannot deprive you of a warranty. Bankruptcy protects a consumer from her debts, it does not shield a company from its obligations. You apparently owned the company something from some other purchase, and as a result of its loss your name was entered into a database stating you had taken out bankruptcy and to not honor service on its products in bankruptcy. You may have to go to small claims court to get an order for the company to do the work.
